- Jan Murk (JanMurk) de Vries (Bolsward, November 11, 1919 – Harlingen, May 9, 2015) was a Dutch goldsmith, glass painter, draftsman, painter, sculptor and monumental artist.
De Vries was born as Jan de Vries and added the name Murk to his name in the 1950s as a tribute to his mother Murkje. He was educated at the National School for Drawing Education in Amsterdam. Here he became acquainted with the exhibitions of Cobra. In free painting and sculpture he is expressionist-abstract and in applied art abstract and figurative (according to Scheen in 1969-1970). He lived in Leeuwarden (1952-1964), Harlingen (1964-1986) and Firdgum. In 2012, acrylic work was exhibited in the Museum for flat glass and enamel art in Ravenstein and in 2013 his work was exhibited in the Broerekerk in Bolsward. From 1964 he was also active for several years as an art teacher at the HBS St. Martinus in Bolsward.
Jan Murk de Vries died in Harlingen at the age of 95.
