Scholten, J. Scholten, Jan Scholten was born on January 6, 1948, in Apeldoorn. After living and working in Belgium for a long time, he decided to finally settle in the Veluwe, where he is surrounded by a multitude of landscapes that naturally captivate him. Jan Scholten trained as a drawing artist. He taught himself oil painting. He listened carefully to the criticism and advice of various artists, who brought him ever closer to his ultimate goal. He has become a naturalistic, fine-tuned painter of landscapes. The beauty of his work is that it exudes enormous precision, yet the paintings are not executed as such and are not painted beyond his abilities. According to the artist, dwelling on a painting for too long can be detrimental. Jan Scholten is a professional painter and also occasionally works as a sculptor. However, his preference lies in painting, in which he can depict landscapes in a way that exudes extreme precision, giving you the feeling of being present in the landscape from a certain distance away. He faithfully reproduces landscapes, yet takes the liberty of adjusting small compositional details so that no single element can become distracting in the painting. Jan Scholten takes photographs of nature and makes many quick sketches, which are later combined to create the landscape he considers most suitable. He is not particularly fond of publicity and prefers to leave that to the various gallery owners who represent his work. Jan is a man of few words and prefers to focus on painting. This is where I can express myself and share my view of the tranquil contemporary Dutch landscape. Jan Scholten's characteristic Dutch skies are recognizable and have become a recurring theme in all his paintings.
