Jan Schoonhoven – Unique Screenprint - Special Edition (F/W numbered) - 1987

A minimalist masterpiece of the Zero movement
This work, a screen print created in 1987, is a rare and typical example of the graphic work of the Dutch ZERO artist Jan Schoonhoven (1914–1994).

The work is hand signed and dated by the artist in pencil - lower right.
Annotated in pencil lower left with F/W. Only one copy exists with this handwritten annotation N/W, like this one.

The composition consists of a dense sequence of hand-drawn, black line forms distributed across the surface in a subtle, rhythmic pattern. Despite the austerity and reduction, a vibrant dynamic emerges, lending the work an almost meditative depth—in keeping with Schoonhoven's search for order, repetition, and variation in monochrome space.

Published by Bébert Rotterdam 1987

The work is framed in a deep, handcrafted, exclusive white wooden frame . The glazing is made of UltraVue® ArtGlass , which not only provides UV protection but also ensures a virtually invisible presentation thanks to its extremely low reflection – perfect visibility without distracting reflections.

This professional framing costs €350.
Sheet size: 50 × 33 cm
Frame size: approx. 57 × 40 cm

Jan Schoonhoven (1914–1994) is one of the most important Dutch artists of the 20th century and was a central figure in the Zero movement, which was closely associated with the international ZERO group . His works are characterized by the absence of emotional expressiveness, instead focusing on rhythm, repetition and the use of the color white. Despite his international success, he worked as a civil servant in Delft until his retirement and often created his art in the evenings, using simple materials such as cardboard or papier-mâché.

His minimalist works are part of prestigious museum collections, including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the Guggenheim Museum New York, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Work VI represents a valuable addition to any collection of contemporary or minimalist art.
