Jan Tullemans, geboren in 1924 te Weert, ging als twintigjarige schilderlessen volgen aan het Beeldend Instituut in Roermond. In het gemeentemuseum van die stad had hij in 1949 zijn eerste groepsexpositie. Hij voltooide in 1958 zijn schilderstudie aan de Jan van Eyckacademie.
Naast een actief leven als schilder was hij ook docent schilderen op de academie voor industriële vormgeving te Eindhoven, thans: Design Academy.
Dit werk is afkomstig uit zijn nalatenschap. Tullemans ging niet even zorgvuldig om met zijn werk: hier en daar kleine vlekjes, niet storend, en vallen weg bij inlijsten.
