Large minimalist screen print on glossy paper made by Jan van Munster in 1985. Unique Artist Proof copy (numbering may differ from the photo / the edition is 12 pieces) In very good condition. Signed, dated and numbered in pencil lower right.

Jan van Munster is often called the 'energy artist', he himself prefers the term short circuit to energy. What matters to him is the contact between two points with an electrical voltage. This also includes the space and contact between two people.

His research into energy and short circuits translates into various projects and works for which Van Munster uses different materials. He works with light, magnets, heat, granite and ice, among other things. In the Brain Waves series, the energy waves in his head, obtained by an EEG (electroencephalogram), become the material with which he works. In neon we see the outcome of the electric shocks that passed through Van Munster's brain: a drawing of what is happening in his head. The granite sculpture Battery for Five Fingers (1995) represents the idea of compressed energy. In a polished sphere, with a diameter of 1.70 meters, he has carved five holes that, as the title suggests, invite you to stick your fingers in.
“I want to show the invisible in my work,” says Van Munster.

“I want to show the invisible in my work,” says Van Munster. A good example of this is his work Tears from heaven. Van Munster uses a compressor to freeze a metal rod during the day. The compressor is turned off at night. What happens is that the salt crystals that have formed on the metal during the day start to melt. These 'tears' are collected and can be tasted by visitors to the exhibition. Drinkable humidity.Van Munster trained at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam (1955-1957) and at the Institute for Applied Arts Education in Amsterdam (1957-1960). He was a teacher at the Willem de Kooning Academy (1974-1976), De Ateliers (1970-1973) and the Academy for Art and Design in 's-Hertogenbosch (1978-1988). Van Munster's work has been on display in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (Rotterdam), the Van Abbemuseum (Eindhoven) and the Kröller-Müller Museum (Otterlo).
