Graduated in 1998 at the High School of the Arts in Utrecht. From the adage Non Puto Facio [lat. don't think but act] Kathalijne starts her work. The state of being is its starting point. It is an unpreconceived plan that evokes associations and atmospheres that can result in spontaneous discoveries that originate in the artist's world of experience. Just like the peeling off of an old wall: beauty arises because the decay does its work. Decay is a natural process, without fixed rules and forms. That coincidence that arises from 'don't think but act' forms the basis of Kathalijn's working method. Finding or observing something unexpected or abnormal cannot be planned. But you can, if it arises, seize the opportunity to use such a discovery in an artful way.
