Maria Luisa Sanz werd in 1946 in Madrid, Spanje geboren. Zij is afgestudeerd aan de Hogere School voor Schone Kunsten van San Fernando in Madrid (1965-1970). Van 1972 – 1977 woonde zij in Parijs.
Zij nam vanaf 1978 deel aan talrijke individuele en groepstentoonstellingen in meer dan dertig landen. In 1982 ontving zij de Joan Miró Experimental Drawing Prize (Barcelona, Spanje) en in 1991 de Pancho Cossio Drawing Award (Santander, Spanje). Haar werk bevindt zich in o.a. in het Conde Duque museum (Madrid) en Museum voor Schone Kunsten (Santander).
