Information about the photographer:
Marie Cécile Thijs, born December 27, 1964 in Heerlen (province of Limburg), is a Dutch photographer.
-The photographer from South Limburg has been fascinated by photography since her youth, but started her career as a lawyer. When she was in her late twenties, she rediscovered her passion for photography and a few years later made the switch to a life as a photographer. "It was love at second sight for me," says Marie Cécile Thijs.
-Marie Cécile Thijs is an art photographer with a recognizable signature. Her portraits are still lifes and her still lifes become portraits. Objects become characters. They become detached from their daily destination, detached from time and space. This results in intriguing creations, in which elements such as tranquility, dynamics and sometimes humor come together. Her photo series 'White Collar', 'Human Angels', 'Cooks', 'Horses' and 'Food Portraits' received much appreciation, as did her portraits of politicians, writers and artists.
-Her working method - use of color and light - refers to the old masters of painting. For the White Collar series she photographed an authentic seventeenth-century pleated collar from the collection of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, which she later incorporated into her portraits using digital techniques.
-In 2010, the photo 'Girl with White Collar at Table' was selected for a photo prize by the curator of the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago. In 2014 she won first prize in the International Photography Masters Cup with her photo 'Chickpeas'.
The work of Marie Cécile Thijs is included in various museum collections, including those of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and Museum Rotterdam.
