Martin Mehkek - Zima (winter) Boerderij met boer en koe in winterlandschap; naïeve kunst - Sold

Beautiful "reverse painting on glass" painting from 1967. It shows a farm in a snowy landscape with a farmer in the foreground, who seems to get the last hay for his cow from a box. He took off his coat and hung it lovingly over the cow. Also notice the broadly branched trees, the dark, deep blue winter sky, the brilliant warm colors and the good perspective. The painter, Martin Mehkek was born in 1936 in Novacka in Croatia in a poor farming family. He mainly painted in the winter, when there was not much to do on the land. He belongs to the Hlebine Art School (second generation). He passed away in 2014. Some of his works can be seen in the Croatian Museum of Naive Art and at the Art Galery ALM in Zagreb.
