Maya Wildevuur (Born as Martje Lammigje, Deventer, July 24, 1944) is a Dutch painter.
Maya Wildevuur studied at the Academy of Art and Industry in Enschede. She first lived in Enschede for a few years and in the years 1980-1985 she became best known for her 'silk collages', which were inspired by English landscapes. The silk technique she used in her first works radiated simplicity as well as complexity. This gave her great name recognition in the Netherlands and abroad. Later she also applied other techniques, but her style has always remained unmistakable.
Maya Wildevuur's work is characterized by the use of strong contrasting color accents, tight but sometimes capricious shapes and emotionality, although the latter is not always obvious at first. In recent years she has been working with different styles and different techniques. Maya Wildevuur mainly paints flowers, landscapes and sometimes animals, but is also known for her characteristic portraits of celebrities who have their own style. She made a painting of Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and Princess Máxima, but also of Paul van Vliet and other famous Dutch people.
With all the nuances, between gray, green and blue, Maya Wildevuur's collages depict landscapes and events. An enormous bouquet that she received as a gift at the first opening of her gallery became the impetus for a watercolor, and slowly the silk collages began to make way for the canvases.
She has lived in the north of the country since 1984. In 1984 she opened the Maya Wildevuur gallery in Hooghalen. Since 1992 she lives in the Ennemaborg in Midwolda, province of Groningen.
