Nico Koster fotografeerde als fotograaf van de Telegraaf op 29 maart 1969 Beatle John Lennon en zijn vrouw Yoko Ono, tijdens hun Bed-in for Peace actie in het Amsterdamse Hilton.
Zijn foto s werden gepubliceerd in het boek “Room 902”, en tentoongesteld in vele galeries en musea. De foto’s zijn opgenomen in de collectie van het Rijksmuseum, en gingen de wijde wereld in. Zo werden ze bijvoorbeeld in 2009 geëxposeerd in het Museum of Modern Art te Moskou.
Zijn reportage leverde hem in 1975 de tweede prijs in de categorie Nieuws van World Press Photo op. In 1983 won hij de Zilveren Camera.
