Nico Molenkamp was a painter and draftsman. He was educated at the forerunner of the Tilburg Academy of Fine Arts and then went to the National Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp from 1949 to 1953. After his training in figure painting in Antwerp, Nico Molenkamp returned to Tilburg, where he became a teacher of free painting at the Academy of Visual Arts until 1982. He mainly painted abstract animal and human figures and was inspired by circus, theater and fairgrounds. He often uses striking, tonal color combinations, which sometimes give a sculptural appearance. Molenkamp has made a number of study trips, including to Italy, Baghdad and Africa. He was a member of several artists' associations, including the Liga Nieuwe Beelden. Exhibitions and awards: Nico Molenkamp has won several prizes, including the Willink van Collen Prize (in 1950) and the Europe Prize for Painting.
