Pauline Bakker (born 1966) is a Dutch visual artist. She studied at d'Witte Lelie in Amsterdam. She has worked as a visual artist since 1997.
She gained national fame with the television program "Stars on Canvas" and by repainting the triptych for the St. Lawrence Church in Alkmaar. She painted the history of Alkmaar on 85 m² over the deteriorating replica by Maarten van Heemskerck.
Anna Mes (born in Koog aan de Zaan, 1935) primarily creates large abstract works that are striking because the color planes are interconnected like a patchwork. Within these color fields, one encounters a vibrant visual language of surreal signs, incisions, and remnants of North Holland landscapes and buildings. Originally a textile designer, she masters many disciplines, including gouache. Mes's gouache works are much smaller and more introverted than her expressive canvases.
Mes draws inspiration, among other things, from her walks along the Kamperduinse beach near Alkmaar. During these walks along the coastline, she studies the light and the vibrant colors. That northern light recurs repeatedly in her compositions, with a bright, overexposed color scheme that feels almost Scandinavian. This is not surprising, as she spent considerable time in Sweden. The creation of her paintings and works on paper occurs in small steps. Mes states: "Everything revolves around feeling and order. I'm constantly organizing, nothing but order. And that's how I try to make things whole. My sorrow, my drama, my love are in the landscape I look at. You can see in my work what's going on inside me. My paintings are inextricably linked to my life."
Erik Tierolf
was born in 1963 in Renesse. He studied at the AKI Enschede from 1982 to 1987.
Since 1991, he has been creating realistic works, primarily depicting people and animals. He paints these with oil on canvas. The sea is also a source of inspiration for Tierolf.
The expressive power of his work lies in his choice of the image he portrays on canvas. These seemingly beautiful, realistic images only reveal the existence of a deeper meaning upon closer inspection, through the alienated elements.
With his work, Tierolf comments on all aspects of existence.
Giorgi Shengelia was born in 1977 in the city of Sukhumi, Georgia. He studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tbilisi.
Since 2003, Giorgi has lived and worked in Bergen, North Holland, a safe haven nestled behind the dunes of the North Sea coast. Here, Giorgi primarily creates paintings and mixed media. He also works on installations and sculptures. He is also active in photography.
The range of subjects Giorgi expresses in his work is endless: nature, city life, landscape, daily life, home, love, food, people—as I said: limitless. As a visual artist, he is fascinated by the tensions and clashes between reality and the artificial, the visual and the intangible, and the past and the future.
Giorgi Shengelia's sensitive paintings range from abstract to figurative, wildly drawn or meticulously detailed, on canvas, paper, or wood. All in various sizes. His expressive sculptures are often made of steel and scrap metal.
Making art, celebrating life and living in freedom are Giorgi's key words for now and the future.
