Peter van Poppel - Large studio, numbered and signed, with etching and letter - Sold

Peter van Poppel belongs to the post-war generation of new realists, who manifested themselves in the seventies. He stood apart from any group and developed himself completely independently. He developed his own style by orienting himself on the great painters of all ages and studying their masterpieces.


He was educated in Utrecht (School for Graphic Design). Peter lived his entire life in the Dom City and also died there in 2023. The city of surrealism has not left him untouched. Peter van Poppel painted with great attention to detail, with humor and tenderness, a sweet and naive realism with alienations in form. He created his own series of small things and beloved people from his circle of vision. He preferred to look for the child in man, as if he wanted to offer the comforting feeling of paradise.

The book offered is entitled Groot atelier - Published by Querido in 1982 - This is one of the LVII (60) copies. This is number XVII. Signed: VTR 1982. He signed much of his work this way. Should be read as: UTR (Utrecht). The city he loved so much.
Deluxe copy with etching. Size: 17 x 20 cm. 'own print'. Signed VTR82. Numbered XV/LX. The latter is strange, because the book has the number XVII.
