Piet Franz werd op 20 september 1922 in Rijswijk geboren. Hij overleed op 21 juni 1991 in Den Haag. Woonde en werkte in Rijswijk en na 1946 in Den Haag. Maakte vele studiereizen naar oa. Zwitserland, Joegoslavië en Frankrijk. Leerling van P. Haanebrink te Delft en van de Koninklijke Academie voor Beeldende Kunst in Den Haag. Gaf les aan de Vrije Academie in Den Haag.
Werkzaam als schilder, tekenaar en beeldhouwer. Staat vernoemd in de Scheen en de Scharten. Behoorde in de vijftiger jaren bij de Voorburgse artistieke werkgroep De Nieuwe Ploeg. Lid van Pulchri Studio en de Haagse Kunstkring.
