- Piet Klaasse (1918–2001) was known as a teacher, illustrator, and independent visual artist. He taught for 34 years at the Rietveld Academy and its predecessor, from 1947 to 1981. Klaasse called himself a "primitive follower of observation." Capturing movement became his specialty. He achieved great fame with his drawings and watercolors of horses and jazz musicians, often drawn on location. Several books were published on this subject.
