Piet Zegveld (born 1946) has been exploring Dutch painting for years, always using the same squares, frames, and circles as his starting point. To express everything with the most minimal visual language. That is his goal. Reducing the limits is a conscious choice. Yet, this by no means leads to rigid art. Zegveld's compositions appear identical, but each painting stands or falls on that one extra, unique brushstroke, that subtle line, yet another carefully considered additional layer over the many previous layers. They guide the viewer into the experience and invite them to create their own world. Each result has been fought for, drastic artistic decisions have been made, boundaries have been pushed, and the painter has managed to surprise himself. Piet Zegveld can best be characterized as a painter with a minimal visual language, yet with an enormous expressiveness.
