Pander was educated at the Academy Minerva in the city of Groningen. At Minerva he was taught by Matthijs Röling and Jouke Wouda, among others.
Pander makes figurative paintings with a loose touch. He is primarily a portrait painter, who paints portraits of animals and people. But it is also sought after for monumental works. Pander is counted among the Northern realists. He exhibits regularly, he has had solo exhibitions in the 't Coopmanshûs in Franeker, the Drents Museum in Assen and in the Pier Pander Museum in Leeuwarden, among others. His work is included in various museum collections. In 1997 he received the Hielke de Vries Prize awarded by Galerie Wiek XX, the jury was "struck by Pander's contemporary processing of figuration and by his passion for experimentation".
