Raoul Dufy (Le Havre, June 3, 1877 - Forcalquier, March 23, 1953) was a French Fauvist painter, illustrator, fabric designer and decorative painter.

Biography
Dufy worked from the age of 14 as a bookkeeper for a coffee importer in Le Havre. In 1895, in addition to this work, he took evening classes from the painter Charles Lhuillier at the École des Beaux-Arts in Le Havre. Here he met the painter Emile-Othon Friesz. In 1900 Dufy won a scholarship to the École des Beaux Arts in Paris, which his friend Friesz had preceded him the year before.

Between the years 1905 and 1909, Dufy's work has a strong Fauvist influence. However, this changed after he came into contact with the work of Paul Cézanne. He increasingly developed his own style that took shape from 1920 after a flirtation with cubism. This style is generally characterized as stenographic and colourful.

In 1938 Dufy completed one of the largest paintings in the world at the Exposition Internationale in Paris.

Dufy passed away at the age of 75. He was buried in the cemetery of the monastery of Cimiez near Nice.[1]
