Reyer (or Reijer) Catharinus Murman (1908-1981) was a painter, watercolorist, and draftsman from Geldermalsen. His father, Goos (1869-1945), descended from a wealthy landowning family in the West Betuwe region, was also a painter, and sent his son to the Art Academy in 's-Hertogenbosch and Antwerp.
Despite his noble background, he chose to become an artist at a young age, a choice that would define his life. His son Reyer (1908-1981) followed in his footsteps and became one of the leading artists of the Betuwe region, along with Jan van Anrooy and Piet Mulder, known as the "Great Three Betuwe Artists." He was a student of Isidoor Opsomer and Piet Slager Jr.
Reyer Murman was also a sailing enthusiast and first traveled throughout the Netherlands with his parlevinker and later with the clipper.
In the autumn of 2024, a book about the work and life of Reyer Murman was published.

If you'd like to view the artworks we offer before the auction ends, you're welcome to visit our shop in Purmerend. Please send us a message or email in advance to schedule an appointment.
