Reinder Homan studeerde aan de Academie Minerva te Groningen en de Jan van Eyck Academie te Maastricht. In 1990 won hij de Nederlandse grafiekprijs.
Uit zijn sfeervolle landschappen en natuurstudies blijkt de enorme beheersing van de etstechniek. De onderwerpen zijn meestal ontleend aan de natuur van het gebied dat hem het naast aan het hart ligt: Noord-Nederland. In een vaak zeer doorwerkt patroon van fijne lijntjes, soms ondersteund door zacht grijze aquatintpartijen weet hij daarnaast het wezen van één bepaalde boom of plant in zijn ets te vangen.
Werk van hem is o.a. opgenomen in de collecties van het Rijks Prenten Kabinet te Amsterdam, Museum Boymans- van Beuningen te Rotterdam, het Drents Museum te Assen, het Fries Museum te Leeuwarden.
