Rick van Iersel (Maastricht, 1961)
Rik van Iersel is self-taught. As a young man he designs posters, draws comics and sketches all day long. He also makes his first large, colorful expressionist paintings. “Nothing is mine, everything comes from someone or something” are the words of van Iersel, which express his fascination for the world around him. He teaches himself a special, personal handwriting, but looks for inspiration to traditional painters with age-old themes. However, Van Iersel finally broke through with his early expressionist paintings. He will have a solo exhibition at the Willy Schoots gallery in Eindhoven, after which he has various exhibitions in Berlin, Hamburg, London, among others. New York and San Francisco.
