Hij heeft een groot deel van zijn leven gereisd en heeft bijna de hele wereld gezien. Spanje, Italië en Brazilië zijn favoriete bestemmingen. Boonacker is een autodidact die tijdens zijn vele reizen is begonnen met schilderen. Door zijn kunstlezingen in Rome, Florence en Venetië bracht hij zijn liefde voor de kunst voor het eerst tot uitdrukking.
