A beautiful and characteristic luminist landscape by Rudi Polder. Polder created many seascapes, composed of very subtle color gradations: the longer you look at the work, the more colors and shapes unfold in the image.

Rudi Polder was born in The Hague and died in 2016 at the age of 89. He began painting at 17—initially in the style of his father, Gerrit Polder, a naturalistic style, post-Hague School. He developed into an artist with a profound, almost spiritual approach to the landscape. Besides being a painter, he was also a poet, writing primarily French poems. In one of his poems, he speaks of "l'esprit du corps," which translates into Dutch as "the spirits of the landscape." This statement is striking when considering his work, in which he became obsessed with sunlight as a symbol of the infinite. This led to a distinctive style dominated by soft, warm hues. His poetic imagination is expressed in a bright and airy use of color.

A digital version of a biography/publication about the artist (The Blondism of: RUDI POLDER) will be supplied with the work upon request.
