Information about the artist: Sara Tromp-Frank (Groningen, May 15, 1912 – Amsterdam, February 8, 2015), painter and illustrator. From an early age, Sara Frank showed a great talent for drawing and painting. She went to the teacher training college and followed an evening course at the Groninger Kunstkring “De Ploeg” where she was taught by Jan Wiegers, Jan Altink and Alida Pott. In 1936 she illustrated the Jewish reading board, designed by Schoontje Engelsman and published by Boekhandel JL Joachimsthal in Amsterdam (see the last photo). She survived the Second World War, hiding in Hilversum. In 1952 she married the Groningen-Jewish violinist Sam Tromp. Sara Tromp's work is very diverse and cannot be categorized into an artistic movement or genre: portraits, still lifes, cityscapes, ranging from completely abstract to figurative. But always colorful and vital. Sara Tromp continued to draw and paint throughout her life. She exhibited her work for the first time, during the celebration of her 80th birthday, in the society of the artists' association Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam. This was followed by exhibitions in the Palace of Justice in Amsterdam, the Groninger Synagogue and the Amstelkerk in Amsterdam. This last exhibition was on the occasion of her 100th birthday. Sara Tromp passed away in 2015 at the age of 102. She was buried in Israel.
