Sergey Mironenko is van oorsprong een conceptualist, die vooral naam maakte als lid van de Russische kunstenaarsgroep 'Mukhomor' (Vliegenzwam), waar onder andere zijn broer Vladimir en kunstenaars zoals Sven Gundlakh, Konstantin Zvezdochetov en Alexei Kamenskii lid van waren. De groep uit 1987 richtte zich voornamelijk op het vervaardigen van kunstwerken met een humoristische maatschappijkritische ondertoon. Tijdens deze periode ging Mironenko ook steeds meer neigen naar een stijl die werd beïnvloed door de 'pop-art' .
De werken van Mironenko zijn opgenomen in vooraanstaande Russische musea en galeries voor moderne kunst zoals de Tretyakov Gallery en het The Moscow Museum of Modern Art.
