This beautiful, and as far as I am concerned monumental painting by Siem Wardenaar (1934) is a feast for the eyes and deserves a beautiful place!
Siem Wardenaar is best known for his bronze statues that are found in public outdoor spaces in many municipalities, see selection below.
In his early days he made beautiful paintings, of which this is a (monumental) example. In terms of style and use of colour, this work certainly has common ground with the Groningen art circle De Ploeg.
Depiction: Harbor in the head of North Holland or West Friesland, probably in or near Barsingerhorn, Kolhorn or Oudesluis (near Schagen).
Technique: Oil on canvas; the canvas is stretched on a stretcher and placed in a large wooden frame.
Date: 1970s
Signed by hand, lower right
The solid wooden frame is painted white and that deserves some attention.

About the artist:
Simon (Siem) Wardenaar (1934, Barsingerhorn) is a sculptor and painter. He initially ran a farm with his brother before devoting himself entirely to art. He is a self-taught painter, sculptor and bronze caster. From the age of 40 he devoted himself completely to art. In the beginning of his career as an artist he also painted, but from the nineties he only makes sculptures and some ceramics. Man and animal are Wardenaar's favorite subjects; he made small plastic but also life-size statues.
