THEO ROS Theodorus Antonius (Theo) Ros (1935-2009) trained at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (LO Drawing) and the Institute for Applied Arts Education, Amsterdam. People and landscapes (North Holland and mountain landscapes) are recurring themes in his work. He is best known for his graphic work. He employs various techniques: drypoint/aquatint, etching/aquatint, wood engraving, woodcut, lithography, and painting. His work reveals a deep engagement with the phenomenon of "man and his environment." Where the average person quickly settles for a superficial perception of symbolism, Theo Ros digs deeper and surprises us with an extra dimension behind his perception. Perhaps this is why he was so drawn to graphic techniques; the true result only becomes visible when the first print rolls off the press. Theo Ros has sometimes been compared to a writer, but with the difference that a writer can use an entire book to tell their story, while Theo Ros is able to capture his story in a single, precise image. Depending on your own "soul," there remains ample room for your own interpretation of his work.
If you'd like to view the artworks we offer before the auction ends, you're welcome to visit our shop in Purmerend. Please send us a message or email in advance to schedule an appointment. After the auction, you can choose from various shipping (PostNL), delivery (Swift or our own courier), and/or pickup options (depending on the size and fragility of the item). We'll pack carefully and use sufficient material (bubble wrap/MDF boards) to minimize any damage. For multiple purchases, we'll combine shipping whenever possible to keep costs low. Pickup is possible anytime up to one month after purchase! If you need more time, that's always negotiable.
