Tilly Moes studied at the Art Academy in The Hague. She painted still lifes with fruit and flowers under the pseudonym Tilly Moes, her real name being Sofia Theodora van Driel.
To make a living, she painted one still life after another while her husband delivered them by train and tram.
Gradually, there were many buyers for her work, and she struggled to meet the demand. Her success continued unabated.
The fact that the vast majority of her work has gone abroad means that there is not much of it left on the Dutch market.
