[Ton] Antonius Franciscus Orth – painter, draftsman and watercolorist – was born in Rotterdam on 19 March 1935 and worked there until 1961, then in Menorca and Barcelona until 1997, after which he returned to Rotterdam. Orth was a student of Marius Schipper at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam. He received the Royal Grant for Free Painting in 1957, 1960 and 1963. Was a member of the Salón de Mayo balloting committee in Barcelona and a member of the Grupo International Menorca. His interest was based on ancient cultures for his work with a strong poetic slant.
