Walter Brems - Silence around us

Walter Brems was born in Reet (Belgium) in 1947. Studied at the Royal Athenaeum in Boom, at the Gem. Academy of Fine Arts in Niel, drawing, painting and graphic design at Kon. Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. His work does not immediately radiate much cheerfulness. But they do have an incredible appeal. Partly because of the sober colors in the background against which we mainly see many silent girls and women figures. Almost exaggeratedly realistic but beautifully figured. Introspective beauties, completely emotionless, they neither laugh nor cry. Their sensuality is enormously fascinating. Dreamy looks. What are they thinking about, what are they looking at? His works also radiate a great emptiness. It is not without reason that he is sometimes referred to as the "painter of silence". The works of Walter Brems are a mirror of his soul. The great difficulty he has with the pervasive superficiality, the impersonality of current society, the sadness for the beautiful things that are lost, all this is reflected in his very special, sometimes downright mysterious works. Walter Brems' paintings are an ever-repeated and renewed monument of profundity, of astonishing virtuosity that does not exclude but rather enhances sensibility, of expression that is clear yet charged with mystery.
