Biography Wim Zwiers

Willem (Wim) Zwiers (Rotterdam, May 17, 1922 – Amsterdam, November 14, 2019) was a Dutch graphic artist, engraver, draftsman, painter, sculptor, glass painter; he was a teacher at the academy in Rotterdam and Groningen.
In 1948 Zwiers was one of three Dutch graphic artists who took part in the Prix de Rome for the graphic art. After graduating from the Christelijke HBS in Rotterdam, he followed a course at the Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam from 1940 and graduated there in 1944. From 1946 to 1974 he was affiliated with the said academy as a teacher in graphic techniques.
He produced a few hundred ex-libris in total. Around 1992, in addition to his engraved ex-libris, he started using the computer to make ex-libris and other small graphics. Although he was not the first to make computer ex-libris, he surprised by starting with such a new technique at the age of seventy as a renowned copper and wood engraver.
