Wouter Stips (Wassenaar 1944) studeerde grafische vormgeving aan de Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Rotterdam. Na zijn studietijd hield hij zich bezig met verschillende vormen van beeldende en toegepaste kunsten. Hij exposeerde grafiek en schilderijen, maakte animatiefilms in Praag, poppen in Parijs, schreef en regisseerde theatervoorstellingen en publiceerde boeken en strips. Van 1980 tot 1995 maakte hij als regisseur en auteur documentaires, drama- en comedyseries. Daarna besloot hij zich weer te richten op de vrije schilderkunst.
