Frans BERNTSEN (1903-1980) Throughout his life, Frans Berntsen was devoted to water. Born in Nijmegen, his love for this was undoubtedly awakened by the Waal flowing past. You imagine a little boy, wandering on the quays and in the harbors, playing in the floodplains, connected to the river that defined his childhood. Later he had his own ship: the bouier ?St. Lucas?, with which he sailed for a number of months from 1930? His paintings reflect his passion for water and everything associated with it. There are (port) performances of Antwerp, Amsterdam, Dordrecht and Vlissingen. He recorded the cities around the Zuiderzee (Urk, Yerseke, Enkhuizen) and along the IJssel (including Zutphen), as well as the Zeeland waters and the Wadden. The Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen has work by Frans Berntsen in its collection.
