The artist Sjoerd Buisman was educated in Rotterdam at the Academy of Fine Arts. in the period between 1974 and 1984 he worked as a teacher at the academy in Rotterdam. The work he makes is mainly inspired by nature and the many phenomena that this entails. In the eighties he started making Phyllotaxis statues, studying leaf positions, and a statue in wood or bronze.
Nature has always been a common thread in Sjoerd Buisman's work. He worked with it, but was mainly inspired by it. His work can be admired in many places throughout the Netherlands. For example, there are statues of Sjoerd Buisman in The Hague, Utrecht, Leiden, Haarlem and Gouda.
