Sjouke Heins (1943) was educated at the Minerva Academy from 1959 to 1966. During this period he became a member of the NU artists' society. In the mid-1960s he opened Galerie Heins together with his brother. At the beginning of his career, Heins mainly produced tightly composed lithographs in black and white. In the late 1960s, the portrayal of emotions began to play a greater role in his work. During this period he concentrated on making drawings and paintings. His works of art have a surrealistic feel.
