Neo-expressionism

Neo-expressionism is a movement that consists of artists who were born after the Second World War. The painters of neo-expressionism rebelled against minimalist and conceptual art. They didn't like the fact that there was no story and no perspective to be seen. Out of this came a brutal version of expressionism. On large-format canvases, they showed their social unease, disgust at fascism and anger against the established structures. This led to dashing, figurative canvases. In Germany this movement was called the Neue Wilden. They were inspired by the cultural heritage of their own country.
