Phil Grisel (1923-2008) was a particularly versatile artist. In Tiel he was friends with Alexander Ernste (1913-1982), a versatile artist and coppersmith. As a painter he worked in various styles, from figurative to very abstract. He did not really make a name for himself, which was not in his nature, and the commercialism in the art world was anathema to him. Worked as a planner at the Provincial Water Board in Utrecht and was therefore not dependent on having to make a living from his art. He attended the art market in Utrecht for many years, where his main focus was on contact with fellow artists, who often highly appreciated his work.
