The company grew out of the Clermont and Chainaye factory. In 1859 it was taken over by Guillaume Lambert who eventually renamed it Société Céramique. The company grew rapidly, especially at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1958 it merges with NV de Sphinx and is called NV Koninklijke Sphinx. Société Céramique mainly produced household pottery and decorative pottery.
