Founded in 1930 - dissolved in 1989
SOCIÉTÉ BELGE DES PEINTRES DE LA MER (1930–1989)
Société belge des Peintres de la Mer was an artists' association that shared the sea, shipping, and maritime life as its common subject. The association was founded by Maurice Pauwaert and Louis Royon, at the initiative of Henry De Vos, Director-General of the Belgian Maritime Affairs. It united artists interested in maritime subjects, but who also addressed other themes. Members included Georgina Iserbyt, Albert Saverys, and Taf Wallet, among others. Regular activities ended in 1969. In 1989, the association met one last time; the later-established Peintres de Marine Belges continued its tradition.
