She wanted to become an artist from a young age and did not attend an academy or art course. Breedveld taught herself the craft and considers life her school. From childhood, she drew whenever she could, which has led to a successful career. Working from her studio in Amsterdam, on Prinseneiland, she brings her art to the world. A colorful collection of artworks, including paintings, etchings, and bronze sculptures. Ada Breedveld began exhibiting in the 1970s. Surrealism fascinated her, an art movement in which not visible reality, but fantasy from our deepest inner selves should be the starting point for art. Gradually, she found her own distinctive style and theme: the imposing and present Woman. That woman, colorful, dancing, with a glass in her hand and little birds around her in the air, is the ultimate bon vivant. This woman forms the central point in many of her artworks, making Breedveld's art highly recognizable. Her artworks reveal something unreal, a dream, full of emotion and experience. She herself says: 'I have been painting all my life. The brush is an extension of my emotional life. With it, I can express myself in the most optimal way. The material gives me the challenge to create a world that evokes the illusion of reality. A reality that does not really exist, but is experienced as such. Just as in a dream, the unreal is experienced as real.'
