Andy Warhol - Screen print, Superman from the Myths series - Framed (Large)

Screen printing with diamond dust. Diamond dust is a special printing technique in which tiny sparkles are incorporated into the lines, creating a very unique effect.

The work is not signed or numbered, but bears the stamp of the publisher Ronald Feldman Fine Arts, Inc., New York on the reverse, as well as the dry stamp of the printer Rupert Jasen Smith, New York. These "printer proofs" served as a reference for the actual print and were used for exhibitions and to promote the series. This screen print was issued in addition to the edition of 200 copies.

In Myths, a portfolio of 10 screen prints from 1981, Warhol referenced the early days of cinema and the imaginary characters loved and recognized by millions around the world. Most of the images in Warhol's Myths series are taken from old Hollywood films or television from the 1950s and reflect the universal view of America's once enchanted and mighty past. Included in the series are characters children love, such as Superman, Mickey Mouse, and Santa Claus, as well as fictional figures like Dracula, The Wicked Witch of the West, Uncle Sam, and Mommy.
