Antoon Kruysen was born in Boxtel in 1898 as the eldest child of the painter Jan Kruysen and Barbara van Dijk. Antoon Kruysen (1898-1977) painted numerous village views, portraits and rural scenes in the Netherlands (especially South-East Brabant). Later he settled in Chatres (France) where he became mostly known for his colorful works with a strong expressionistic tint. Some of his works seem to refer directly to the oeuvre of Vincent Van Gogh. Much of his work can still be found in Brabant, both in museums, including the Museum Kruysenhuis in Oirschot, and in private possession.
