Tavernier was born in 1899. His active production period spanned several decades, roughly from the early 1910s well into the 1970s. Although historically relatively few biographical details regarding his early training have survived, his extensive artistic legacy speaks for itself. He developed a recognizable Post-Impressionist style with a classical slant, focused on capturing natural light and the changing seasons. He died in 1991 at the age of 92.
Tavernier's paintings — primarily oil on canvas or panel — are beloved by collectors of classic Belgian landscape art. His work still appears very regularly at the auctions of prominent Belgian auction houses.
