Arnold van Griensven - Etching, Title, "On the Way". 1972 - Sold

Arnold van Griensven specialized in watercolors and paintings, executed in colorful acrylics or mixed media. He also created numerous etchings. His subjects range from abstract works and playful fantasies to landscapes, such as views of Geffen and its surroundings.
Let's hear from the artist himself: "Travel, music, and beauty, alongside all sorts of events and life in its order and chaos, form the themes of my ever-new work. Each piece takes on a unique character. Air, light, earth, water, and the horizon gradually reappear in stylized or abstract forms. I apply it very carefully and intuitively, layer by layer. This way, each work acquires its own atmosphere. It can be contemplative, sometimes humorous or relativizing, with a preference for vitality and a poetic touch."
Van Griensven received his creative training at the Academy of Fine Arts in 's-Hertogenbosch. His teachers included the abstract-geometric graphic artist Dick Casseé (1931-2023) and the internationally acclaimed painter Eugène Brands (1913-2002), also known for his cheerful, vibrant color fields. A third teacher who made his mark was the versatile Budapest-born Eduard Flor (1925-2015).
Since 1974, Arnold van Griensven has worked as an independent visual artist and is a familiar face in the regional art world. He has held sales exhibitions and presentations in cities including 's-Hertogenbosch, Uden, Nijmegen, and Eindhoven. He has also exhibited in Delft, Utrecht, The Hague, and Antwerp. In the 1980s, he was one of thousands of artists worldwide to submit work to the major international Graphic Art Biennale in Seoul and Taipei. Anyone familiar with the Maaspoort district of 's-Hertogenbosch will undoubtedly recognize the towering steel sculpture "WEB," which Van Griensven created in 1985 for the municipality of Den Bosch—a unique achievement in his career.
