Arthur Spronken (1930-2017) was a sculptor, graphic artist, and painter with a predilection for horses. He trained at the Maastricht School of Applied Arts, where he was taught by Charles Vos and Harry Koolen, among others. He studied there from 1948 to 1952 and then left for Milan for a year to intern at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera. There, he was taught by, among others, Marino Marini, a specialist in the depiction of horses in sculpture.
