- Bernard Leemker was born as Bernardus Hendericus Josefus Leemker in Groningen on October 8, 1899. He was the son of the lithographer Hermannus Henricus Leemker and Johanna Maria Omloo. In October 1913, the family moved from Groningen to The Hague. At that time, the family consisted of both parents, five daughters, and two sons. Bernard Leemker was the eldest son. In The Hague, he trained himself as a painter, illustrator, and advertising artist. Subjects in his work included Spanish culture, billiards players, and clowns. Inspired by the painters Piet van der Hem and Willy Sluiter, he developed his own characteristic style. He also painted harbor scenes, landscapes, and river landscapes. He died in 1990 in The Hague. He created illustrations for jigsaw puzzles, newspapers, board games, postcards, coloring books, magazines, and posters. He passed away in 1990 in The Hague.
