Born in Amsterdam, he moved at the age of 37 to a detached house in Ilpendam with a beautiful view over the meadows of the Waterland polder landscape.
That landscape was captured by him many times in oil paintings and watercolors with the characteristic broad brushstrokes.
The work became so popular that the art lending service often had to disappoint interested parties. The work was on loan and often did not even return because the borrowers became buyers. Immink was not only a painter of the Zaan/Waterland landscape.
He traveled extensively in his life, and everywhere he went, he made sketches and paintings of the landscape.
