Charles Mertens (Antwerp, April 14, 1865 – Calverley, England, February 20, 1919) was a Belgian draftsman, painter and etcher.
Mertens studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. He made landscapes, portraits and genre pieces. During the First World War he lived in England. He was part of the group De XIII and is seen as a precursor of Impressionism. He was co-founder of the Kunst van Heden group, a Belgian association of visual artists and art patrons, founded in Antwerp on March 1, 1905. Together with Piet Verhaert, he was an important representative of the Antwerp School at the end of the 19th century.
