Frans de Jong (1921-2010) worked as a printer, typographer, and graphic artist. In his work
he explored the artistic possibilities of the printing press. He primarily used typographical
material such as letters, lines, and ornaments from which he constructed his prints. This playful
He combined this approach with the stencil technique, cutting shapes out of a sheet of paper from which a print was subsequently made using an ink roller. He is known for his colorful, playful prints in which a layer of social criticism can often be discerned, such as in his protest print *Het stadhuis staat op de Dam*.
